The Axe
An entire book containing not one word, but images found on the internet. By repetively joining two of these images together the authors create a new context, sometimes delightful, sometimes disturbing.
The book was created in a collaboration by Patrick Waterhouse (England) and Christian Etter (Switzerland) while working together in a research center in Italy in 2006. Their idea was to lay out the disconnections of today's modern society in a simple and universal language, which then can be sent to influencial figures in politics and media to reconcider their understanding of the world.
The resulting book is small and accessible, indeet reminds a bit of a bible. The contents form an abstract narritive through the fundaments of humanity such as religion, politics, culture, media, war, food, sexuality, technology and consumption. Some contents are very light and humourous, others are rather dark and disturbing. A very recommandable and unusual publication.
